Between Dec 1862 and Feb 1863 Thomas Jones , a coal miner from the Nant lost four children Enoch aged 3 buried Dec 25 1862 Sarah aged 5 buried Dec 25 1862 Elizabeth aged 8 buried Feb 3 1863 Miriam aged 9 months buried Feb 10 1863 Also an entry for John Jones, Nant a carrier, buried aged 62 on Dec 26 1862 -- related to Thomas father These are all buried in Wern Chapel Graveyard.

I should imagine that all these deaths in such a short period of time were due to an infectious disease, either contained in the family , or even in the area. It will be interesting to see if any other families were stricken in the same way at this time. This family in the next 1871 Census still had three surviving children.
