Is there a War Memorial in Coedpoeth or Bersham for men killed in World War One? I'm looking for a death of Alfred Henry Jones born 1891, son of Mary & William Carrington Jones, wondering if he died during the great war.

The War Memorial is on Park Road, Coedpoeth opposite the library.
Im not sure if an online listing exists of the names on our local war memorials. Im sure one of our members will assist if a listing is availiable. If not, then I think including such a listing on these webpages will be a good idea.

I had a quick look on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website - but I couldn't get a match on the name. This site at www.cwgc.org is free and lets you download an excellent certificate for each casualty.

Margaret
Thanks for checking the war graves site. Who knew there would be so many A H Joneses?
Annette has confirmed that the Coedpoeth memorial does not contain Alfred Henry's name. It's possible he is on another memorial nearby or he died of natural causes. Will have to keep looking!

What a great and respectful idea to share CWGC certificates of our ancestors. I have created a new thread solely for CWGC links.
Please re-submit any links listed on this topic within the new thread.

Hi, Are you aware that on M & W CARRINGTON Headstone ( A Magnificent one) there is a tribute to their son Harrie who died in Cairo, Egypt 6 2 1922 aged 31 years--Henry was often referred to as Harry or Harrie(maybe a Welsh version) if these are the correct family he would have had to be a twin being born 1891 Apologise if this is a load of waffle but just maybe it could helpGood Luck Tom PS LW IMG 3 and 4

I believe it is Alfred Henry (Harrie) Jones son of Mary Carrington and William "Carrington" Jones. I know Mary was the daughter of John Carrington and Margaret Mitchell. According to the grave William was born January 16, 1856 - I think he was registered plain William Jones - only one in that quarter. Not sure why he used Carrington as a middle name - perhaps his mother was one. Another mystery for me to solve! H

I managed this using PhotoBucket, but it`s so complicated ( for me anyway) but at least it worked.
