Growing up my Mother would tell me of my Great Grandfather who died falling off his horse as he was taking the mens wages to the quarry. A cat ran out in front of him and the horse jolted. His name is John Blackwell he was married to Mary. As far as I know they had two children, Mary (My Grandmother) and Frances. I am trying to find out as much about my ancestors. I am trying to find out as much about the Blackwells as possible. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have much info for you but I did see the following.
Looking in Cliff Davies's book Pubs and Inquests, there is a reference, in connection with City Arms, New Brighton, p26, of a John Blackwell being the landlord in 1868. According to the reference, he died when he fell off his horse by the Three Mile, Adwy.
I also noted on the Minera Parish records site a burial at Minera Parish Church on 17 June 1868 of John Blackwell of City Arms, aged 42.

Just noticed a further write up on p22 of Pubs and Inquests - the accident took place on 9 June 1868 - this refers to the horse shying away from a dark animal that ran out of a gate. John Blackwell had been to see his friend Thomas Wilcoxen who kept the Three Mile House. The ref states that he died on a Sunday, the accident having taken place on a Tuesday.
I am a little uncertain about quoting the full excerpt in case of breaching copyright.

I remember also my mother also talking about Mary Kelly (My Grandmother was called Mary named after her mother). She must of been the wife to John Blackwell ??
Dave, my Mother mentioned the City Arms a lot. I wonder where the Three Mile, Adwy is?
So at the moment I am looking into the Blackwells and the Kellys. I am following my Mothers Side.

I am pretty sure that Thomas Wilcoxon is related to Annette, who does a lot of work investigating queries posted on this site - I am not sure where I have read this before but it must have been on this site. I am very sure she will pick up this thread.
As to the book, I obtained a second hand copy via abebooks.co.uk. The information contained is not much greater than I have posted but it is a wonderful little book in its own right.

Three mile house. www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.051661&lon=-3.062272&z=18.6&r=0&src=msaThis was an inn so called because of the milestone outside showing the distance from Wrexham to that spot. This was the scene of an accident, and the following inquest was reported in 1868. “On Sunday last, John Blackwell of `City Arms `died as a consequence of injuries received after falling from his horse on Tuesday, 9th June, 1868. The jury was told that Mr Blackwell had called to see his friend Thomas Wilcoxon, who kept the `Three Mile House`. He had one drink but was not drunk. Wilcoxon said he saw him mount his horse, which was a very tall horse, more suited to a cart than for riding. As he was going towards Pen Y Gelli the horse shyed away from a dark animal that ran out of a gate and Mr Blackwell fell on his head. He was bleeding from his ear and nose and he never regained consciousness. The full report of the inquest is in the Wrexham Advertiser. Cyngorra is right, TW was my ancestor.

www.wrexham.gov.uk/english/community/genealogy/MarriageIndexSearchForm.cfmTake a look at this site, lots of Wrexham BMDs and it will tell you where the marriages took place. There are lots of Blackwells , you can cross check for the spouses names on Free BMD . If you look at Parish Records Online, found on the Home page of this site, look for the pic of a church, there are marriages in Minera of John Blackwell and Mary Ann Williams , and of William and Mary Jane

I have just replied to caniad2004 on the "Share Family Tree" thread.
Annette - Regarding the death of Mary Blackwell nee Kelly - the reason that you could not find her in 1891 is because she married Robert Griffiths in 1885. I have found them in 1891 at Assembly Road, Coedpoeth. Robert then dies before 1901 and Mary goes to live with her daughter Mary (now married to Thomas Roden). I have them together in 1901 at Broughton, Brymbo. I think that her date of death was either 1904 or 1907 - I haven't established which as yet ! Regards - Margaret.

From the records that I have I believe that it was Thomas Charles Blackwell that died in 1915 at the age of 21 (though this could also have been a WW1 death - I have not checked this myself) Regards - Margaret.

Thomas Charles Blackwell does not appear on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission list of World War 1 casualties. This does not necessarily mean that he didn't serve in the First World War and possibly died after discharge as an indirect result of something that happened during his service but such instances are usually a bit later than 1915. You could check to see if there are any service or pension records for him on Ancestry.
