My grandmother, Dorothy Hughes (b. c.Sept 1905), was from a large family of Hughes from the Coedpoeth area. I now believe that my mum was brought up at Gegin Farm following WWII.
It is also my belief that my Grandmother was the second youngest child from a large family who also had links to LLoft Wen (Adwy) and possibly also had other properties in the area - as she told me a story (many years ago) of collecting rent, as a girl, in Coedpoeth.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi, www.familyhistoryonline.net/general/basics.shtmlThis site is very useful for the basics of family history, I am unsure how much you already know about the subject. Its best to work backwards from confirmed information, your own birth cert will confirm parents names and mothers maiden name, parents marriage cert will confirm their fathers names and so on.

In 1881/91/1901 the farmer at Gegin Wen/Old Gegin is John Richards born Minera. In 1871, there were Hughes at Gegin Wen cottages. If you would like further info on this, just ask, but you may have a bit of research to do before you get back to this point.

Hi again Eluned. In the meantime I have found some interesting/relevant posts here which may pay off...: www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northeast/sites/wrexham/pages/minera.shtmlForgive me for not knowing my way around the site yet, but please could you direct me to the Location thread (I feel a bit like the new kid at school! I have had a scoot around but I'm groping in the dark somewhat.

Please don't worry about asking, I'm on here alot but still get confused! Forum home page, second section- heading local history. There are headings for different areas so go to minera, then pg.2, look down list for Gegin and it will take you to a flash earth link. Hope this is clearer than mud Eluned
