This is a list of surnames appearing in the Bishops Transcripts for Minera 1772-1785. Quite a variety of non Welsh surnames even then. I understand many moved to the area for the lead mining and then their children become Welsh speaking.

Could I please ask where you got the Bishops Transcripts for Minera 1772-1785 from. I'm particularly interested in the WYNNE family, which you say are mentioned. Thanks, John Wynne

Hi John - we meet again ;D The transcription of the Bishop's Transcripts 1772-1785 covering baptisms are available from the Clwyd FHS in Volume 1 of the Minera Parish Register series. Other than the siblings/parents and dates you mentioned on the Clwyd List yesterday, the only other WYNNE baptism was a Catherine WYNNE born March 9, 1776 bap March 10, 1776. Father Thomas (collier) from Brombo. Minera was a chapel of ease in Wrexham Parish until 1844 so marriages and burials for the area were recorded in the Wrexham registers until that date. I think the Wrexham registers indicated where the remains were actually interred as they were not necessarily buried at Wrexham. At least that is what I understand. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone on here will correct me! Incidentally I ran a graveyard search today on the open church site but was unable to find any WYNNEs posted - yet. I understand the site is being updated on an ongoing basis. It should be a great resource once the work is completed as it covers 16 graveyards/churches in the Wrexham area. www.openchurchnetwork.co.uk/index.aspHeather
