I`m putting this here as a reminder to myself as to what it contains and how to use it. I spent a while on Saturday trying to `suss` it out. I think I may still be next tiime Anyone else used it , advice gratefully received ;D HAYES COMPUTERISED MARRIAGE INDEX (includes Montgomeryshire) This index is divided into sections made up of groups of parishes forming the old counties of North Wales. An additional section covers nearby English parishes. The index coverage is growing and, at the time of writing [early 1995], the sections are as listed here: Pt I Flintshire; Pt II Denbighshire; Pt III Merioneth and Mongomeryshire; Pt IV Anglesey and Caernarfonshire; Pt V The Marches. The index contains: parish; year of marriage; full names of bride and groom; and, after 1837, names of the fathers where these appear (widows not shown). The index can be used to: a) locate a specific marriage; b) search for a marriage where the name of only one party is known; c) list marriages containing any specific name; d) search for all marriages where father's name known (post 1837 only). (e.g. marriages of children of John Davies 1884 to 1907.

Hi, It sounds like you were trying to access this online then or am I correct in thinking that this is the lady in Ruthin and the charge for a search is £5.00 or am I getting confused with another index If it is the one, I had a seach done for an elusive Evans marriage but unfortunatley it didn't find the one I was searching for. I am sure this had no bearing on the search and that the marriage probably wasn't there to be found anyway.

I think the HAYES marriage index is also known as the North Wales Marriage Index. It is a great resource compiled by Dafydd Hayes, which I have used over 20 times to find locations where likely marriages took place. Especially useful for Anglesey & Caernarfonshire where there are very few transcriptions available to search any other way. You can access it online through the GENFAIR website and usually get a response/list of marriages by email the next day. If you are a Clwyd FHS member I think it is also be available to search at their family history centre at Cefn Mawr.

Hi, Yes it is in book form in Cefn about 30 different good quality copies/ I was once told by Dafydd they are available for sale but very very expensive--this was a couple of years ago when they held classes there for beginners and I am still a beginner Regards Tom
