Hello all, My grandfather John William Roberts is, I believe, buried in Wern cemetery. He died when my father was about 2 so that would be around 1929-1931. He was born 1892 and lived in the Nant / Tudor Street area around the time of his death apparently - his wifes name was Mary Elizabeth (known as Mair). It is possible he is buried with his father John Roberts b1865 whose death date I do not yet know Any information greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Alison

The burial records available stop at 1890, of course that doesn`t mean that there isn`t a later register, but I have no idea where it might be. From notes in the Grave register ( see home page at the top Wern 1 etc ) there were burials up till at least 1935.

Hi, Thank you both - the Coedpoeth one certainly looks like it could the right one (right age and death dates). My grandmother may possibly have been referring to his father and stepmother being buried in Wern Cemetery as there are a couple of John Roberts in Wern. My grandfather was always referred to as John Will by the family and I can't imagine that they would have omitted his full name on his grave. Many thanks, Alison

Hi Tom, My grandmother remarried but only died in 1995 aged 95 and she was cremated. However John Roberts married at least twice - first wife died 1901 (Barbara Davies) buried Eryrys/Llanarmon -i found them on the 1901 census in Eryrys. He then moved to Coedpoeth/Minera/Wern area with his three children(he was a lead miner)and remarried. I think the second wife's name was Frances Edwards ( she was also a widow) and that was ? maiden name - I think her first married name was Williams but cannot be certain. She also had children, and they had more children together - noone else in my immediate family can help me with this line - I am patiently awaiting the 1911 census for a few pointers as its all very complicated! Regards, Alison

Hi Tom, I don't think this is them - I saw this one on the Lee wetton site too - but the death date for Frances is too early - she had more children after their marriage in about 1903. Thanks for your help though it is much appreciated - I'll be scratching my head on this one for a while yet I think! Alison

For those of You who don't Yet have Street View Facilities on the Internet I thought I'd Insert This Link Of the Terrifying Place that Wern Cemetery really is.!! upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/91/Wern_Cemetery,_Minera_-_geograph.org.uk_-_1010719.jpg They say One night On the Top of Cadair Idris will either make you a Fool,a Madman,or a Genius. I'd take my chances on "CD" rather than spend a single night in Wern Cemetery!!. It doesn't take a Genius to realise that after one night in this place You'll come out a Madman (Or Woman). And you'd have to be a Fool in the first place to try it.!! ;D
