Looking for information about JOSIAH RICHARDS BALL connected with Minera from at least 1881 to 1901. We was born Jan. 29, 1836 in Tavistock, Devon and died in Minera area in 1908. His wife was Agnes R. who was aged 68 in 1901. Josiah was a manager of a lead mine in the area His father was Thomas Ball (1807 - 1878) also connected with lead mining and died in Lampeter Wales. Would like information about death date of Josiah and his wife, their burial locations, and any family. Michael Ball mdball@sympatico.ca

As Eluned says no sign of children, but where were they in 1871. As there are two records of Agnes being from South Wales , I would agree with this. Bridge End / Neath, pretty close together. How does Margaret fit in then

Josiah would have been about 15, where is he,
IGI JOSIAH RICHARDS BALL Birth: 29 JAN 1836 Christening: 21 FEB 1836 Wesleyan, Tavistock, Devon, England
Parents: Father: THOMAS BALL Mother: ELIZABETH RICHARDS
Looking at the fact that Josiah was Wesleyan, maybe they are not in Minera Church, but perhaps Rehoboth or Coedpoeth.
You could be right Eluned, Jojo`s Carrintons were buried in Minera but with an obit in `Cylchgrawn`. There may be something in the Wrexham Advertiser, he was quite an important man.
Michael says he has a photo of Josiah( another post) I wonder if he is like the desciption given in the Minera Book. ` He has a flattened nose, giving him a pugilistic appearance , measures 66 inches around the waist`
Looking at1901 living with Josiah. Margaret E Davies, Neice single 25 b Cardigan Aberystwyth It looks like Margaret was the daughter of Josiah`s sister Emily, who died between 1876 and 1881. So even if Josiah didn`t have children, then he had at least these nephews and neices.
In 1851 living with Josiah`s father is Emily Ball.dau 11 b Ireland

Thank you for all the kind "ideas" about Josiah Richards Ball. In reading his obit. and burial notices there is only a mention of a wife. Other people with a "Ball" surname are listed a nephew. There are other "relatives" with a ROWSE surname so I expect a niece must have married into that family. It is quite possible that at the time of the "missing" census Josiah may have been in Spain working in the lead mines these. Michael Ball mdball@sympatico.ca
I think it is likely that Josiah Richards Ball was married in the Mary Tavy / Tavistock area of Devon. He was born in Mary Tavy and bsptised in Tavistock. His mother was Elizabeth Richards and she was also born in that area. It the maiden name of Josiah's wife Agnes was also RICHARDS as one of the census records indicates then it is quite likely she came from the same branch of the Richards family. Unfortunately, Richards in that part of Devon is rather common and I have not been able to find people who are researching the family. Thanks, again, for all the useful suggestions. Michael Ball mdball@sympatico.ca
Hi Michael, I haven't been able to find a marriage anywhere in England or Wales between 1861 and 1881, this includes Devon I'm afraid.
Reading back through the thread Annedw's had found this "In 1868 Mar qtr Tregaron. Emily Ball marries Thomas William Davies."
Interestingly there is a Josiah Richards Ball birth registered in Tregaron, Cardigan in Jun 1/4 1873. I would be tempted to look into this Josiah's parentage perhaps
They probably are, it looks like Josiahs younger brother. See reply 10 HO107; Piece: 2486; Folio: 280; Page: 35 1851 Melindwr Aberwystwyth. Thomas Ball 42 leadmine agent b Mary Tary Devon. Is there a difference between Minera House and Minera Hall ?
In my research into the life of Josiah Richards Ball I found that he was living in "Minera House. I recently discovered a postcard, on eBay, of Minera Hall near Wrexham.
Hi Michael, I don't know where Minera House was but they are not the same place. Crockers Wrexham Directory 1881/1882 has Rev. R Owen Burton living at Minera Hall and Josiah Ball, Manager Minera Lead Mining Co. Ltd., living in Minera House. Villages and Parishes in the County of Denbighshire 1886 has John Robert Burton living at Minera Hall and Josiah Richards Ball, Mine Agent, living in Minera House. Hope someone can tell you where Minera House was. Nellie
Hi, Minera House is about halfway between Minera and New Brighton in an area known locally as "The Pentre" and I am pretty sure it is someones residence at the minute. Regards Tom
Denbighshire Records Office has a collection on loan from G.F.Wynne which comprises the records of five companies with whom G.F. Wynne was associated - as secretary of the Minera Mining Company and United Minera Mining Company, and as manager of the Record Vanner and Slimer Company, the Minera Mines Gravel and Concrete Company and the Infallible Exposure Meter Company. In addition there are some personal papers.
This one mentions Minera House
212 Certificate from John Harrison, builder and contractor, Coedpoeth, as to completion of repairs to Mr. Kyrke's property (Minera House & cottages) Pentre Minera. 1915.
With a bit of luck you might find it on Google maps. This should be the satellite view. You can just make it out on Street View if you find the Georgian Style House. It`s up the track off the main road.
