Hi all,
I've picked up two addresses from the 1911 census but can't find the location on Google Earth etc. Does anyone know their location and if they are still standing?
The first is that of my g. taid at Edwards's Cottages, Gwynfryn and the second is my g.g. taid at Bryn Mair, Bottom Road, Gwynfryn.
Many thanks Col

Many thanks Col The enumerator lists are now available for free on the 1911 website for those who have purchased the relevant images. If you download that it should help you place where the addresses were in relationship to other houses/roads etc. I have the list page 2 (which covers schedule 24 to 46) & page 7 (which covers schedule 135 to 157). My Carringtons were at Gwynfryn (the house) on schedule 139 between "Gwynfan Gwynfryn" and "Bryn Nain(?) Gwynfryn" but unfortunately Edwards Cottages are not on this page. Perhaps if you looked at the 1901 census that might help to place them. It is very confusing as the two pages are presented as one image. It was driving me crazy trying to trace the route until I noticed the pages were not sequential. Now that I have cottoned on this situation seems to apply on other enumerator lists in other areas that I have downloaded. Heather

Thank you both
I haven't looked at the enumerator images on 1911 as I went for the cheaper option of downloading just the details and not the census image - it looked like it would start getting expensive otherwise! All I currently know was that both properties were in district 26. I was tempted to pay for the census image as they're nice to have so the additional enumerator images may swing the decision for me.
By looking at the 1901 census I believe Edwards's cottages was on Plasgwyn mountain somewhere near the Melbourne Arms. Also nearby was Hughes Cottages and Kellys's Cottages (if I'm reading the transcript right!!).
I think you are right about Ffordd Isaf being Bottom Road. I am visiting a relative in Minera this weekend so may take a walk around time permitting.
Thanks again

Hi Dave I've had another look at the list I have and I think the house name I was reading as "bryn Nain" is actually Bryn Mair which is schedule 140 occupied by a Mr. Davies . I think the Carrington house is now known as "Nant y Glyn. So this Bryn Mair would have been one side or the other of it. They are both located on Fford Isaf (lower road) Hope this link helps. I've centred it on Nant y Glyn. www.flashearth.com/?lat=53.063313&lon=-3.109155&z=19.1&r=0&src=msaHeather

Hi, This may not be what you are after but Edwards Cottages and Bryn Mair Gwynfryn are on the 1963 Electors List (with occupants of course) Tom

Thank you Heather - thanks for the info! My plans for today changed and I didn't get up to Minera today but I hopefully will this week and I'll look to see if I can work out which house either side of Nant y Glyn is / was Bryn Mair
Thank you Tom - that's a line of enquiry I hadn't considered and it shows the houses were still there in 1963! The inhabitants weren't Davies by any chance?

Hi, As you have not said if you have had an answer to your original enquiry "Are These Houses Still Standing?" I believe it is now one house called September Cottage and about to be put on sale. If so there should be pics etc available if you can locate which Estate Agents are responsible. Good Luck Tom.
