Hi, I do hope somebody may be able to help .... I'm trying to find any descendants of Valentine Williams and Margretta Jones. Valentine is my maternal great grandfather, and he was born in Rhos in 1888. His marriage to Margretta Jones was his second marriage and was undertaken at 'Bethel' Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, Nant Rd, Smelt, Coedpoeth on 28th June 1934. I have very little information on Margretta Jones and that I do have is taken from a copy of their marriage certificate which is limited. Margretta's father was John Jones and they lived in Smelt, Coedpoeth at the time of Margretta's marriage. I'd be grateful for any information on either of them. Many thanks in advance. Mike.

Hello Mike, can I make sure you are looking for descendants and not ancestors. It would seem that Valentine was about 46 when he married, but how old was Margretta ? Was she a spinster ? I have looked on the 1901 census, and there are many Margretta Jones`s , but nothing stands out so far. What was Johns occupation, who were the witnesses, all this might help. Looking for ancestors is much simpler than searcing for descendants. If you know when and where they died then an obituary might give some details on their family.

Hi, Valentine Williams aged 63 yrs bur. 28 1 1952 Margaretta Williams aged 71 yrs bur 11 4 1973--both in Plot 1941. I do not think there is a headstone but you would need to check this out. There will possibly be an obituary in The Wrexham Leader (Palmer Centre) which would reveal names of descendants. Hope this helps Tom

Thanks to both annedw and tominera for both your responses. For the avoidance of doubt, I'm looking for descendants of Valentine & Margretta. I have found ancestors going back to before the 1841 census. Tom, your information is superb, thank you for your time in responding. I had Valentine down as passing away in 1948 (I do not have a copy of death certificate, but narrowed this down from the BMD database & what my mum thought would be correct ) When Margretta married in 1934 she was 30 years old and a spinster (thus born in 1904). Valentine was 46 and a widower. John Jones, Margretta's father, is noted as a coal miner (hewer) and they lived at 4 Old Smelt, Coedpoeth. As I noted earlier I have very little information on Margretta and all I do have is limited to that on the Marriage Certificate. The witnesses are Abel Davies and Harriet Davies. Tom, does "plot 1941" relate to the main cemetery in Coedpoeth?? The one at the end of Cemetery Road? I'm due to make another visit to Coedpoeth and surrounding area in the next week or so with my mum (I only live near Manchester) so I'll be able to make further investigation. Thanks again; I have been working on my family history for four years, and I still get surprises ;D ;D

Hi, Yes it is the main Cemetery which you refer to---If you send me your E mail in a PM I will send you my own version of a plan for the cemetery which will narrow it down to a specific area and make it a lot easier to find--that is if there is a gravestone hopefully. I may get a chance to look for you, but dont hold your breath as I cannot promise to do so definitely Good Luck Anyway Tom

Hi Mike
I am looking for descendants of my Great grandmother's family. One of her brother's is a John Jones born 1876 who was a coal miner and lived in Bwlchgwyn Cottages in 1901 (see my post for details). It may be a long shot but could this be Margretta's father??? I know there must have been loads of John Jones' - I guess it's a process of elimination with such a common name!
Regards
Ann
