Hi ,I am researching the children of my great great grandparents Abraham and Hannah Hopwood and have found out from the 1911 census that they had 11 children in total. 7 were still alive in 1911 and 4 were not. I had only been aware from the earlier censuses of the 7 living. I have found one of those who did not survive through this message board and wondered whether anyone could fill in the gaps. Abraham and Hannah married in January 1871. The children who survived to 1911 were: Richard 1875 William c1878 Elizabeth 1880 Martha 1883 John Thomas 1885 Mair 1891 Sarah 1894 In addition I have now added Margaret 1892 -1892 There is an obvious gap from 1871 to 1875 and again from 1885 to1891. I have a few possibilities from free bmd and would expect a Benjamin or Edward to appear as the other children have family names. If anyone can confirm the missing Hopwoods it would complete the picture. They seem to be Rehoboth worshippers but were in Minera 1871, Coedpoeth 1875, Bwlchgwyn 1878, Coedpoeth 1880 back to Minera 1901 and Coedpoeth in 1911.

Hi nellie and welcome to the site Not sure where you have already looked but you seem quite knowledgeable so excuse me if I post things that you may well have already tried. There are some Rehoboth MIs listing Hopwood and name varient Hapwood, on Tom Mercers site. You will need to contact him to gain the full inscription details. There is a BENGAMEN HAPWOOD. www.tom-mercer-mi-indexes.org.uk/Rehoboth,%20Coedpoeth.htm There are also some brief handwritten MIs available and I can see there is Richard Hopwood died 1875 aged 39yrs so he will be one of the ones mentioned in the index at the above link. The Cylchgrawn Welsh Wesleyan magazines 1888+ are available at the A.N.Palmer centre and list some births, marriages and deaths within the circuit so they may be of interest. Eluned

Thanks Eluned, I have exhausted the census records and most online records that I am aware of. I have seen tom mercer's site and look forward to the new records he is about to put online as there may be some Hopwoods in Bwlchgwyn burials. I am unable to get to North Wales at the moment to look at parish records but hope it will be possible to return in 2010 and maybe tie up a few loose ends! ...unless of course someone out there can solve this one first! Bengamen Hapwood from the Rehoboth Chapel is my 3xgreat grandfather. I think someone told me what the inscription was a few years ago and it did not add to what I already knew. The Richard who died aged 39 was his son. Thanks again Nellie

Hi Doing a check for deaths registered in Wrexham between 1871 and 1896 I found just 6 Hopwood children (+ 3 that appear on one site and not another ) Which Hopwoods did you find in the BMD please? Were these births and/or deaths? Have you tried looking at the registers and records on this site www.the-red-zone.co.uk/about.htmlwww.bwlchgwyn.minerahistory.com/I have checked the Bethesda Wesleyan Chapel, Bwlchgwyn MIs but there aren't any Hopwoods for the time period you are after. I think these are also on Tom Mercers site.

Hi Eluned, I narrowed it down to the following:- Mary Sep 1872-Mar 1875 Hilda sep 1886-dec 1886 Robert sep 1887-sep 1887 Robert jun 1888-jun 1888 Benjamin jun 1888-jun 1890 Lydia jun 1893-jun 1893 Eva sep 1893-sep1895 There was also a male Hopwood 1871 which I presume was a still birth. My feeling is that the still birth 1871 is the first followed by Mary and Benjamin after Abraham's father and both their mothers. If anyone can eliminate the others it would help confirm my suspicions. One thing to mention is that the name is also recorded as Abbott or Habbutt and other variations and William appears as William Abbott Mar 1878 Wrexham just to confuse. I can't find any other Abbotts that would fill in the missing spaces in the family. Nellie

Thank you very much Tom for the details of the Coedpoeth cemetery Hopwoods. Most of these I had but not the exact dates of burial and not Ruth jr and Brynmor.. Thanks for the baptisms too. I thought I knew why John Thomas was buried with the Hughes but I am mixing up my John Thomas Hopwoods. Will have to investigate that one. Lots of updating of my tree to do now! Thanks again, Nellie I have looked at my tree and the other John Thomas is in the same plot as Edward and Sarah Hughes.
