On 20 and 21 September 1899, the 15th Annual Poor Law Conference for the North Wales District was held at the Wynnstay Arms Hotel, Wrexham. A full account of the proceedings (papers presented, discussion, etc.) can be found at www.archive.org (click on Texts, then use the Search facility). There is also a list of the Unions represented and the delegates - plenty of names from Wrexham and the surrounding area. It's part of a volume which contains reports of all the Poor Law Conferences held between May 1899 and March 1900. Incidentally, the site also has a copy of an 1888 translation into English by James Harris of "Rhys Lewis", by Daniel Owen.

Hi Annedw, Many apologies for not picking up your query before now. I think I clicked on Texts and then just typed "poor law conferences" in the search box. The results are "digitised by Google" - there aren't that many of them but the one you want shows it has been downloaded 40 times. That's a laugh as far as I am concerned, I hardly ever manage to download a Google book and usually have to resort to reading it online. I have downloaded a number of books in pdf format but not when they have been digitised by Google. If I download from "Full Text" (much smaller, plain text file), half of it is gobbledegook. Anyone else have the same problem? See if this works: www.archive.org/details/officialreports02confgoogGood luck! Lynn

Further to my last post, I now have a version in Word of the North Wales conference 1899. If anyone would like a copy I'd be happy to email it.
