Have just been told of the existence of a Book called "The Encyclopedia of Wrexham" written by Alistair Williams does anyone have knowledge of this?

I can`t be 100% sure but I don`t think the catalogue includes the books. I can`t find them there. The Encyclopedia is a quite recent publication, but most of the info in it about the older places seems to be taken from A N Palmers History of the Town of Wrexham, and C Dodds History of Wrexham. All of these are in the Museum.

OK I've been having another look at this because it is soooo confusing...... In 1841 we have John the grocer, who must be Ronnie's. There is the John, who moves to Manchester, with his father and his siblings. But there is also John Mason 50 Malster Well Street Mary Mason 51 DressmakerWe need to find out about this couple.

I think Annette also found this Wrexham death John Mason died Jun 1844
John at the Old Three Tuns on Brooke St/Brooke Side, disappears from the directories between 1840-50.
Perhaps we need to find this John Mason's burial and even an obituary.

Thanks Eluned, but hold on there for a bit, I need to have a few things clear in my mind about Mary Mason nee Chaloner first, before confusion muddies things. Ronnie

OK as concerns Mary Mason nee Chaloner 1851 census is in King Street Liverpool with wife Mary son Joseph and daughter Sarah between this and 1861 John (jnr) dies Liverpool or Manchester? 1861 census Mary (head) is in Cambridge Street Chorlton with Joseph and Sarah 1871 census through to 1901 census she is in Avon Street Chorlton presumably dies post 1901 but have not looked for her death yet. Annettes find on John Mason death 1844 ( if in Wrexham) looks promising

This 1844 death could be John snr, of course I am fairly confident this death is the John Mason from the Three Tuns. It can't be the other older one cos you have his death cert

WAKE UP ;D ;D ;D These are the dates of the earliest papers in the Museum, so you won`t find an obit before then. WREXHAM ADVERTISER 1850-2, 1858-1945, 1953-1957 Microfilm Another thing is, even though John Mason Three Tuns is in the 1845 directory, he still could be dead by then having died 1844?. This info is from a site about the directories. However it does have its limitations; the information published may have been out of date or not updated correctly and the directories only list the head of the household.

Good morning Ronnie, No obit and it doesn't look like there's a will either I used the link to "wills" given by Annette.

OK eluned, thanks very much. There are now two avenues I should pursue. Namely evidence of birth and or baptism for John jnr in Trefaldwyn, and anything else that might transpire from Montgomeryshire. I won't have the luxury of having you good people helping though and I will probably have to visit various locations and do searches physically.

Will you be visiting Wrexham museum?
If so check out the burials of John Mason bur Jun 1/4 1844
and Mary Jun 1/4 1861 or Mar 1/4 1864. Try St Giles.
There is also this marriage to have a look at that I mentioned last night; John Mason to Mary Owens 11 Mar 1820
Happy hunting
