Hi, Thanks for all the info--I really wanted to know if Charles could have been in the UK in 1918 apart from other things and you have answered this with what seems like a very very probable yes. Thanks again as I now have plenty to put in and work on etc. Regards Tom

Hi, Thankyou to all who have contributed in any---much appreciated. I have obtained some of the info I wanted but not the main one which was when did he(personally) go to France. These details may not be available but having seen very detailed histories on this site over the years I thought I would give it a go. Thanks again Tom

Hi Gwil, Please can you supply any info regarding Private George Houghland who died in France 5 10 1915 and is on the Coedpoeth War Memorial in Coedpoeth. It does not give his age but I know he was born June q 1896. He is on the fringes of my wifes family tree and I would like to record any details which are available-Thanks Tom

Brilliant ;D He is definitely the one and I thought he was born in Mount Pleasant but they could be correct with his birth place if they have better info than me, as I always thought he was born in New Brighton seeing he put Esc above in his 1901 census returns as his place of birth--but that does not really matter now as I have got sme great info from you---Thanks again Tom

Hi, Just in case anyone checks up on the details regarding my previous search for David John Jones I would like to make it clear that I realise John David Jones born 1890 in Esc Ab is the one I am really seeking. (The military search being a stab in the dark so to speak) JDJ was born Sep q in Mount Pleasant, New Brighton Minera and the family were in Queens Head Row in The Smelt, Coedpoeth in 1891 Census. His mother Sarah died in 1893 and is buried in Minera also his sister Sarah died before 1901 and his father David remarried in Minera Church 1895 to Mary Ann Hughes (He died in Sep 1912 and is buried in Minera-probably with his first wife and daughter)JDJ is living with his father and step mother in 1901 in Tyn y Wern, Esc. Ab. age 11 years but I have not been able to positively find him after that so would welcome any help preferably without spending Thanks Tom

Thanks for such a prompt and detailed reply which was far more than I could have dreamt of. It proves beyond doubt this is not the David I am seeking. I did come across a David John Jones boarding with a Davies Family in Coedpoeth in the 1911 Census and the head of the family was an assistant schoolmaster. David was down as his brother in law-probably him. Thanks for info which has certainly answered my query-Tom Yes there is a Thomas Jones RWF on the memorial but no details whatsoever. There is a great programme now on the Clwyd Family History site for most of North Wales Military Memorials---AMENDMENT I have just noticed it does give his number 6893 and resting place also that he was a Corporal---Sorry about that another senior moment i'm afraid

It was nice to meet you and see Keith with his new found family, several of whom I was aware of and one has promised to try and find some old pics of Minera which could prove invalueable someday---Really nice to have a happy ending for a change ;D

Hi Annette, The pic on the home page( with Signs)is in fact Victoria Terrace and the sign is outside Victoria Stores whereas the sign relevant to this enquiry was up on the side of an old wooden/corrugated building behind the Five Crosse Inn if my memory serves me correct. I appreciate the other pic is Twenty Houses with the pub we are referring to on the far end Tom

Hi, We may have missed an important clue here regarding the Woodbine sign. I can vouch for the fact there was a large enamel sign as described on a building behind the Five Crosses Pub--I think it was the garage as the Owens family had lorries and also owned a smithy in this spot. This would make Kelly's information spot on as regards location, directions etc.--Tom

Hi, Cliff Davies wrote the following in his booklet "Lost Names and Places". Gwern Hall was part of the Nant y Ffrith Estate and the Spottiswood family who were descendants of the Kyrke family had it built in the 1870,s-----------In 1920 when Mr Kyrke sold the hall (NYF) and left the district for good, a painting of "The Monks Kitchen" made ÂŁ420 and a pair of fireside chairs made ÂŁ100. The estate passed into the hands of Mr Kyrkes daughter Mrs Spottiswood who lived in Gwern Hall. She sold the estate to The Bwlchgwyn Roadstone Company and the hall was demolished in 1950 by the owners---Tom

Hi, Here is my version of the inscription translated (sort of) In Memory of Thomas son of John & Hannah Hughes who died 11 of January 1855 aged 20 Years also Hannah wife of John Hughes who died 17 of June 1870 aged 68 years also John who died 14 April 1879 aged 79 years. Just for the record Edwards grave in Coedpoeth is next to my wifes Grandmothers grave which we did not know existed until I started doing Family Tree about 7 years ago. Do you have any positive details such as marriage certs deaths baptisms etc of any of the Hughes family as I am always ready to add good facts ? Thanks Tom

Hi, I will start by trying to explain how I would go to the Wern Cemetery, I would travel through Coedpoeth to Minera and follow the road through to the Wern-I would guess everyone knows where Kingsley Williams's Breakers Yard is. If you carry on down the Wern Rd past Kingsleys and the old City Arms for about a mile there are 4 Council Houses on the right and the Cemetery is immediately before these. Really overgrown and you will need to take care. However should you get any decent photos of any of the graves I would always be grateful to add to my collection as I have never been blessed with a decent day to take pics.

Hi, I have quite a lot on this family and will gladly share it all with you. Do you live locally as my version of where the Wern Cemetery is would be an old fashioned style. Here are a couple of pics from the Wern to get you on your way. Good Luck Tom Attachments:
